Bergdale Harley-Davidson (BHD) was founded in 1985 by Duane and Vincent Bergdale after the purchase of the then-current stock of Harley-Davidson® parts, accessories and motorcycles from Vandegrift Cycles, Inc. The business was relatively small in those years as Harley-Davidson struggled to overcome the AMF stigma. The introduction of the Evolution® engine in 1984 turned things around.
