Inspirational Rider of the Month, Cathy Osmundson!

Current Location: Rochester, MN

Family: 4 and 2 Grandkids

Vocation: Nurse at a migrant health clinic at Rochester

How she was introduced to riding: “I grew up on farm riding dirt bikes. I always wanted to get my own, but life happened, then kids, and after a while I decided I really want to make this happen.” Cathy purchased her first bike in 1999 when she was in remission from Cancer. “I decided life’s too short, this ain’t no rehearsal. I have a lot of things in life I want to do – and I don’t want cancer to win.”

First Bike: 1997 Harley-Davidson 1200 Custom Sportster

Cathy’s Current Bike: 2006 Harley-Davidson Softail Deluxe

What you probably didn’t know about Cathy: She is a four-time cancer survivor.

Diagnosed in Oct 23 1996 Ovarian Cancer 13 ½ years a survivor 6th time to go through it chemo for the last two year for maintenance a few years ago they told me it was chronic

When they told me I had cancer I told myself “Instead of living to be 100, I’ll settle for 99. And that’s when I decided to get a Harley. You don’t always get to do what you want to do, and you don’t get to come back and do things over.

Cathy continues to ride, she said enthusiastically, “riding is my therapy” Noting that the vibrations from the motor take away the pain from her feet.

Favorite places to ride: I love riding out west, ….anywhere out west. I’ve gone a few times out to Colorado by myself to meet up with my friends from Corpus Christi.

Fun Fact: This will be Cathy’s 17th year going to Sturgis!

Favorite routes: Any road going to Colorado, the roads around Durango in Southern Colorado, and then up to Sturgis are also nice. I also love the roads in Yellowstone & around Montana. Arkansas and Tennessee are a few of my other favorite places to ride.

This year’s destination: This summer I’d love to ride to Seattle to see my family, but would also love to ride to Alaska on my bike to go hunting and fishing.

Other hobbies: Hunt, fish, gardening, canning, sewing, baking, all kinds of different things.

Cathy’s advice: Life is short so live it!
